Perhaps one of the more shocking events during the “Makati stand-off”, is the arrest of countless journalists, including the attempted arrests of popular TV news reporters Pinky Webb, Ces Drilon, and Sandra Aguinaldo. While I buy the argument that it was the police’s responsibility to clear the area and take everyone for “processing,” I don’t think that they did it properly and legally. Rather, (coupled with the declaration of a curfew) it seemed like Martial Law all over again.
Rep. Darlene Custodio has filed a motion to cancel the airing of Manny Pacquiao’s boxing match against Mexican Jorge Solis. Both Custodio and Pacquaio are vying for a Congress seat to represent the First Distict of the Province of South Cotabato.
You must live under a rock if you don’t know what I’m talking about. Yesterday, another shameful Filipino legend was born… Armando “Jun” Ducat Jr.! This attention-seeking joke of a person hostaged 26 (that’s 20 plus six) pre-schoolers, allegedly, to get the attention of the local and international media and “lecture” them on the demons of the Philippine goverment. Ironic does not even begin to describe what happened.
This early, TV viewers are already being barraged with stupid, self-glorifying political ads from so-called “senatoriables”. And it’s goddamn irritating. If these people really did their jobs well, I don’t think they really have to pay hundreds of thousands of pesos to promote themselves.
Isn’t it illegal to start campaigning when the campaign period hasn’t officially started?
In his August 10 column entitled “Don we now our gay apparel” for the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Isagani Cruz hesistantly takes potshots at the gay community and even goes the length of how the existence of a gays adversely affect society.
Here are some excerpts:
It seems that the present society has developed a new sense of values that have rejected our religious people’s traditional ideas of propriety and morality on the pretext of being “modern” and “broad-minded.”
The observations I will here make against homosexuals in general do not include the members of their group who have conducted themselves decorously…. I offer abject apologies to those blameless people I may unintentionally include in my not inclusive criticisms. They have my admiration and respect.
I saw the last part of Pia Hontiveros‘ phone interview of Virgilio “Garci” Garcillano’s lawyer, Atty. Eddie Tamondong on ANC. Tamondong confirmed that Garci is indeed thinking of running for Congress.
Hontiveros had the guts to ask Tamondong if they are going to use the “Hello Garci” ringtone as part of his campaign. Tamondong was clearly shocked. He said that if that was going to come out during the elections, it would have to be done by the opposing camp. He proceeded to defend his client by saying that the cases filed against him have no basis and that they are going to win.
Erwin Oliva of Inq7.net has written an article about the complaint of a United Kingdom-based firm, represented by some Paul Bowers, that they have been ripped off by a Philippine-based outsourcing company called “Wicked Innovations.” He wrote the article based on his correspondence with Bowers. What he didn’t write was that Bowers was simply dissatisfied with the quality of work and Bowers and Wicked Innovations has already settled the matter.
It is really unfortunate for the Philippine outsourcing industry that Oliva had written such article without even bothering to think of its possible consequences on the industry. Oliva even snarkily implied at the end of his article that it is ironic that Wicked Innovations explains in its website why it is good to outsource in the Philippines. Oliva seems to believe that it is not good to outsource in the Philippines because of this SINGLE incident involving Bowers and Wicked Innovations.
Some blogs, such as Alleba and the PinoyTech Blog, have already talked about the issue, while defending the Philippine outsourcing industry.
