Janette Toral of DigitalFilipino.com is spearheading the Blogging and 2010 Elections Program. The goals of the program are as follows:
Although there are more than a handful of political bloggers in the country, our coverage of the past elections have been, sorry to say, insufficient. This is not to say that we have not tried our best. Moreover, I don’t think we were able to amply reach a good number voters to sway their opinion, and make a significant contribution towards the conduct and results of the past elections. Toral’s initiative is certainly a worthwhile one that deserves the support and participation of as many bloggers as possible.
Filipino bloggers certainly have a clout. Proof of this are the Malu Fernandez and Desperate Housewives controversies that reached the awareness of many Filipinos (here and abroad) through the mass of bloggers who expressed their opinion.
I think it’s high time we wield whatever influence we have to benefit the Philippine Electoral System. Undeniably, the COMELEC is suffering from low credibility while facing an insurmountable amount of tasks, duties, and responsibilities.
Rather than waiting for corruption, bribery, and irregularities to be revealed before we voice our opinion, why not start with proper information dissemination and helping out the electorate make sound informed choices?
This is our country, our democracy, our liberties at stake here. Let us not forget that as much as the government is responsible for taking care of us, we are also responsible for our government’s success.
Hi Ria. Thank you for the support. I’ll start a group and will invite you to it.
Often we hear people complain that the government doesn’t have the proper plans and programs to address the people’s needs. Here’s our chance to actually let our voices be heard by our presidential candidates. This will give them a chance to tell us about their plans before we give them our vote. Let’s all put our two cents in.
