League of Governors Claim it was them who Handed out Cash Gifts

More than a week ago, Pampanga Governor Eddie Panlilio and Bulacan Governor Joselito Mendoza both claimed they each received PhP500,000 handed out after a meeting with Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in MalacaƱang. This raised suspicion as to who gave out the money, and what it was for. Nobody came out to right away to claim that he was the one who gave out the money. And no explanations were given as to what the money was for. Rabid Arroyo defenders argued that there was nothing illegal about the cash gifts. A lot of people believed it was some form of bribery.

Now, the League of Provinces of the Philippines (LPP) is claiming it was them who gave out the cash gifts as help for Panlilio and Mendoza who are both first time governors. According to LPP spokesperson Palawan Governor Joel Reyes, the cash were for the governors’ “capacity-building.” He further explained that it came from the 21 million worth of contributions for the LPP members.

Riiight… if the money really came from legitimate funds, distributed for a legitimate reason, then why was it distributed in secret? When Panlilio and Mendoza told their story, why did the LPP not come out right away? Why only explain now?
