PBGEA Appeals Aerial Spraying Ban

The Pilipino Banana Growers and Exporters Association (PBGEA) is now appealing the Regional Court’s decision on the constitutionality of Davao City’s ban on aerial spraying. PBGEA contends that the ban makes their plants susceptible to the Black Sigatoka Disease. They also argue that the ban will eventually lead to the death of the local banana industry.
These, however, are very simplistic arguments. Truth is there are many pest control solutions which do not necessarily harm the environment and the general public’s health. Moreover, the ban is unlikely to cause the death of the industry.
If PBGEA is sincere in helping the country’s economy, surely they will be more accepting of the ban. Instead of whining like kids whose candies have been stolen, they should work harder to improve their businesses not just for their profits, but for the benefit of the environment and the public’s health.
