A Dubious Deal

Initially, I was quite unconcerned over the national broadband network (NBN) brouhaha. But today, there’s a report saying that Former Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Romulo Neri would neither deny or confirm that he was offered a PhP 200M bribe. That got me thinking… why would he offer a “no comment” stand? If he wasn’t offered a bribe, it would have been easy for him to deny the allegation. On the other hand, if he was offered a bribe… well, it seems like he was, and his “no comment” is actually very telling.

Now, Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita is asking Neri to explain. And he should. Not just to Ermita and the administration, but more importantly to the taxpayers whose money is at stake.
