Addicted to Power

Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, quoted by the Philippine Daily Inquirer, hinted that she might run for Congress after 2010:
…she said, “Who knows, I may run for Congress in my hometown.”
IF she steps down as president on 2010, she would have been president for more than 9 years. Add to this the number of years she spent as senator and as vice-president of the country. If after all these years, she still feels compelled to run for office, that can mean one of two things… either she has not been an effective public official or she is addicted to power. Then, again, her reason may be both.
Although she followed her hint with what is described as “hearty laugh,” it do not think it is beyond her to actually run for Congress. She is after all, the same person who promised not to run for president, the person who vaguely owned up to cheating in the last presidential elections, the person who is aggressively pushing for charter change in order to stay in power. Nothing is beyond her. She has almost no moral fiber left, she seems to not know what delicadeza is. She seems to firmly believe, albeit in the wrong way, in the Adidas adage that “Inpossible is nothing.”

[…] Of course these accusations are a cause for concern. Were we duped by Arroyo and her cohorts? By now, there is not doubt in my mind that Arroyo is capable of dirty tricks just to attain power. First, she broke her promise not to run for the Preisdency. Then, came the “Hello Garci” tape. Then again, she has hinted that she is thinking of running for Congress come 2010. And of course, Arroyo and her cohorts are still resisting the Senate’s re-opening of the “Hello Garci” issue. […]
