How to Run the Philippine Elections According to Benjamin Abalos

After proclaiming a failure of elections in Maguindanao, the COMELEC has backtracked and has validated the elections in Maguindanao. The reason? The winners of the local elections in the province has been declared. As if that’s a good enough reason. There’s no dumber reason. In the first place, the COMELEC itself was the one who declared those winners and not some higher authority. As if the declaration of the winners of the local winners nullifies and discredits the testimonies of the many witness to the alleged cheating. As if the countless proofs saying otherwise are now invalid.

This recent development is just one of the many crimes that Abalos has perpetuated and tolerated as the COMELEC Chairperson. The “Hello, Garci!” scandal is yet to be resolved. The elections are not yet automated. Countless Filipinos have been disenfranchised. Dead and non-existent voters populate the voters’ list. Opposition candidates have been harassed. Legitimate party-list applicants have not been accredited while questionable administration-backed groups were accredited. And now this….

This, ladies and gentlemen, is not the proper, legitimate, and credible way to run the elections.
