All eyes on Lanao del Sur

A day after the May 15 elections, the Philippine Daily Inquirer headline announced that elections were not held in several towns in Lanao del Sur. Today, troops were deployed to secure the the “special elections” to be held tomorrow in 13 towns in the province.

Many journalists, pundits, and bloggers have stated that tomorrow, Lanao del Sur will be considered a a battle ground. Tomorrow’s “special elections” will be closely guarded by everybody. Call me paranoid, but I agree with them. Tomorrow’s event is chance for all those who wish to cheat to do so. It’s going to be chaotic, for sure. And probably only a miracle can stop chaos from happening.

So tomorrow, while most people have already forgotten who they voted for, many (I hope) vigilant eyes will be on Lanao del Sur. And rightly so, because if there’s anything we should have learned from past elections, it should be that our role as voting citizens do not end after we cast our ballots.
