Majority Floor Leader Rep. Prospero Nograles’ Son, Karlo Nograles, Is Kalahi Party-List Nominee
April 17th, 2007 at 3:40 am (National Politics, Davao City, Election 2007)
And I thought the party-list hoopla could not be more ridiculous. Atty. Karlo “Kaka” Nograles, eldest son of Majority Floor Leader Rep. Pospero “Boy” Nograles (1st Disctrict, Davao City), is an official nominee of party-list group Kabuhayan at Kaunlaran Laban sa Kahirapan (Kalahi). Allegedly, Kalahi represents Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). What is remarkable is the younger Nograles is not and has never been an OFW. He defends his nomination by saying he is fit to represent the said sector because he has “experience” as a “labor lawyer.” May I ask what these experiences are??? Following this line of argument, then just about every Filipino can be a party-list nominee, as long as they have “experience” as a youth, as an elderly, or as or is remotely related to any member of the marginalized sector. In defending himself, the younger Nograles is quoted asking “How can a trisikad driver make landmark laws in the Congress?” Aren’t OFWs lucky to have such “experienced” and tactful person represent them?
Another interesting thing to note is that the younger Nograles has been sponsoring beauty pageants, talent shows, public works, charity works and other such ventures with his name and face splashed all over Davao City. Moreover, he shamelessly broadcasts these over a local cable channel. I wonder who really paid for such things??? Is he that successful to be able to afford sponsorships and airtime? All these, most of Davao City assumed, are his early moves to position himself as a winnable candidate in the upcoming elections. He and his father have been reported to have lobbied for him to become Mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s vice-mayoralty candidate. Unfortunately for the Nograleses, Duterte opted to have his own daughter Atty. Sara Duterte run with him. When this was finalized, I thought that the Nograleses have somehow laid the younger Nograles’s political career to rest.
And now this… allegedly, an OFW party-list group has nominated him and he merely accepted. RIIIIIIIGHT!!! Two words come to mind… DESPERATE and KUPAL!

Yet another shameful example of trapo in the Philippine political arena. You sound surprised, my friend? Me, not anymore, but my indignation knows no bounds!

Call me a leftist, but I voted Bayan Muna before and will do so again this 14 May. Why? Because it is one of the very few part-lists that have guts to name their nominees. Of course, I will vote for Bayan Muna as a sign of protest against the extrajudicial killings and against Arroyo’s regime.
Bayan Muna, po, sa party-list.

Im not a leftist, but I admire Bayan Muna for its guts to expose
and condemn the abuses, corruption in our govt system.Sometimes, they are
annoying, but they got balls. The Nograles father and son ambition in the
house of reps just reflects how rotten our system is.

I am a citizen of the UK. Perhaps It is felt that being an outsider I have no right to comment. I say to these people I am first a member of the human race and as such the Arroyo regime and the Americans that support her are an affront to my humility, humanity, compassion and love for my fellow man. I am not a lefty or a violent person and have been a capitalist with a social conscience most of my life. I have witnessed similar abuse of people but never worse. The tragedy is that it is all so unnecessary. Gloria Arroyo could have been a loved president and still been wealthy. Oh the culture of greed. I am expecting a meeting with UK foreign Minister Margaret Beckett shortly to inform the UK government of the reality of life in the Philippines. Wish me luck and solidarity to you all.
