Genuine Opposition’s Official Website

Genuine Opposition Blog

The Genuine Opposition (GO) has apparently realized the potential of the internet as a campaign tool. They have an official website, which is actually a blog, where they post press releases mostly authored by their official spokesperson Atty. Adel Tamano.

In the blog, GO describes itself…

Genuine Opposition (GO) is the umbrella political coalition party of the opposition’s senatorial and local line-up for the 2007 Philippine Midterm Elections. It is a multi-party and multi-sectoral coalition that includes the UNO, Liberal Party, Nacionalista Party, NPC, Aksyon Demokratiko, PDP-Laban, PMP, and civil society groups. The common platform of the GO is focused on anti-corruption and poverty-alleviation.

Furthermore, GO presents their so-called ten-point program. And there are very brief and uninformative introductions of their senatorial candidates.

The last five entries of the blog are as follows:
GO denounces DoJ findings to clear Petron in Guimaras oil spill March 28
People want true transparency, accountability; March 28
GO urges Comelec to speedily decide Cayetano cases March 28
SWS Net Satisfaction Survey March 27
Anti-Hunger Czar’s Admission March 27

Although the attempt is laudable, the site misses the mark entirely. Their presentation of their candidates is very much limited and does not offer any new information or insight on the candidates. Their press releases are cold and impersonal, obviously written to either impress voters or throw mud at the other side of the fence. Instead of bringing the opposition closer to blog readers, IMHO, the site only gives the impression that the candidates are cold personalities who do not have enough time or interest in genuinely reaching out to their constituents.

Memo to all candidates and voters:
    Politics As Seen By Foreigner
Written By Kelly L. Brown, US Navy Retired

As a bonafide immigrant, the Philippines is my home and I do care what happens in Philippine Politics. “The People” should be represented in a manner that the interests and needs of “The People” are first and foremost, the most important thing to a person representing “The People.”
As everyone knows the year 2007 once again brings elections. With an election year comes electoral candidates that do not have the interests and needs of “The People” as their first priority in being a candidate. If your vote as a registered voter, or representation as a candidate, can be bought with a promise or favor of something “in kind” or in the form of “mere pesos” then you do “NOT” have what it takes to participate in a democratic form a government and should excuse yourself from participation in the election process. When promises, favors, tokens in kind, and money lead you astray from either voting with your heart because you know it is the right thing for “everyone” or from representing the needs and interests of “The People” because of those promises or favors owed, then your supporting a return to corruption and a Government that “does not” represent you. Everyone knows that promises can and will be broken sometime. A token gift of something in kind does not last a lifetime, but the evils of corruption can take decades to undo, hinder the professional development of our youth while reversing the advancement of the Philippines and “The People” as a whole. And lastly if you do believe that a brief infusion of money into your finances (i.e a purchased vote) will end up giving you “Good Government” then you are living in a fantasy world and may need to review your morals and goals in life. What you will get is a Government that does not represent you, will not meet your needs, and does not work for you! Please vote with your hearts and hopefully educated minds, not your wallets or pocketbooks and do what is right for the Philippines. The Philippines has come a long way and with the right votes that result in the right candidates being elected, the Philippines can one day be “The Pearl of the Orient.”

    For what it is worth,

Like Manny Pacquiao ( Im so dis appointed to him) if he will be elected as a representative of GenSan he will look like a robbot of GMA..He should quit now or I will pray that he will loss for his coming figth between Solis. He should study first our constitution and finish highschool. Here in we should vote the incunbent not the one who only residing here because the GMA administration told him to do so..Hey Mr. Lapid the voters of Makati are not blind. Remember na bago mag presidential election ang sabi nya di sya tatakbo and then the last minute binawi. Tapos ng manalo dahil nandaya sabi 6 million job for six years…. Natupad ba?

Kaya piliin natin ang Go. Huwag ipagwalang bahala ang ating kinabukasan. Maraming salamat.

3 reasons why we should vote straight opposition
    From Senators to Congressmen:

    1. The issue in this election is Gloria Arroyo and NOT the candidates.

What she has already done and what she will still do if she wins the election.

    What she had done:

She doubled the National debt from Php 2 Trillion to Php 4,000,000,000,000.00. It took 60years for our 10 past presidents to incur the Php2 Trillion.

Her solution to this debt is EVAT 12% which imposes so much hardship to the people & havoc to business. Anomalies are at all time high & informants instead of being rewarded are charged in court and her critics are summarily murdered, 264 so far.

She gave us the most corrupt government and a disunited country.

What she will still do if her candidates win the election:

She and her Congressmen will change our government to a parliamentary and federal system to SAVE themselves from the same plunder case they accused President Joseph Estrada.

Under the parliamentary, the congressmen elect the Prime Minister and under the federal system, the governors have powers almost like the president. The Congressmen will elect Gloria as prime minister & in return, she will give them the federal system. Graft & corruption will be worse & 12% EVAT will become 20%. The lust for power will tempt powerful regional politicians to declare their region’s independence like Mindanao, Cebu & etc…Civil war might erupt.

To fool the people, she & her allies cited the success of the parliamentary system for Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and the federal system of America but they purposely did not mention that the politicians of these countries are honest & highly principled which is their exact opposite.

    2. A landslide opposition victory will prevent the Supreme Court from declaring chacha/conass as constitutional.

Her cha-cha/con-ass, including those presidential decrees undermining the constitutional investigative power of the senate is clear culpable violation of our constitution. Even first year law students know this but instead of outright censure, the Supreme Court took so long to decide. Although she lost, the vote is close and the decisions are compromise decisions. Gloria is so powerful that even Supreme Court had bended the constitution. 11 of the 15 justices are appointed by her. After the election, she will revive the cha-cha/con-ass before the supreme court.

    3. To balance off the massive cheating Gloria will do

As Gloria had cheated in 2004, this time she will use all the power and money to cheat again in Pampanga, Iloilo, Cebu, Pangasinan, Ilocos Sur and Mindanao where the media and the opposition are almost non existent. The opposition is hopeless to prevent this.

FOR THE SAKE OF OUR CHILDREN AND COUNTRY, VOTE STRAIGHT OPPOSITION. GOD SAVE THE PHILIPPINES.

    “Dissatisfaction with President Arroyo

Judging from the Social Weather Station’s periodic survey on the satisfaction ratings of Presidents, it is clearly shown that only during Arroyo’s presidency is the level of public confidence ever at a negative and consistent low. While the satisfaction ratings for the past presidents including Estrada easily exceeded the 60 percent levels during their peaks, Arroyo’s confidence level barely reached the 30 percent level at its highest. From 2004 until the last survey in November 2006, the net satisfaction ratings of President Arroyo were at a consistent negative. The eight-year-long SWS survey data shows that never before since the end of Martial law has the Philippines been served by a President unaccepted by the general population.”

I hope that this site is not only intended for the elections.I know na ipinagmamalaki ni Pres. Arroyo ang tumataas na piso and the increase in foreign investors here in our country.I know the meanings of inflation, deflation, Peso devaluation, the rise in stock market and a lot more because i am a graduate of a business course and i can sayI am more fortunate than almost 50% of the population who are suffering from poverty. What I am saying is, yeah its true that when Peso goes up, it has a great effect on our economy, that this means we are growing. The problem is, as the administration tells us this, the lives of ordinary Filipinos do get worse pa rin. We have a lot of poor ordinary citizens that needs help.My smpathy also goes to the Ordinary Muslims in Mindanao, though I am a Christian, I believe that they were exploited by some this past elections. The right to vote is the only thing that makes every Filipinos equal, yet they were deprived of that right. Some of the Muslims are discriminated, but based on what i observed, the culprits are their Muslim leaders. To Atty. Adel Tamano, I know your aware of this things and I hope you can do something about this. I hope that OUR LEADERS are not blind about this.My purpose here is to give my comment on the issues in our nation especially politics. I dont think that Trapo is the right word for those politicians. I believe they are EGOPO…. Egoist Politicians, Egocentric Politicians and the worst Egomaniac Politicians.Maybe you’ll say, my words are rude or even worse. But as i said earlier, this is my opinion based on my observations.I saw an ad last night about automation of election by Sen. What I don”t like about Politicians, the people behind them and other groups is, why do they have to spend huge amount of money when a lot of Filipinos are experiencing hunger.I and the country don’t need a politician. we need a leader.I have already chosen my leaders last May 14.I also consider some people as the leaders of this nation that are not into politics.I know there will be an attempt for an impeachment this year, but i think the President has a solution over this. She is very clever. All i wanted is the truth, if she’s not guilty of something then she must prove it.i belive i have the right to know the truth because i am a citizen of the Philippines and i pay taxes. To all politicians, i hope they realize that in every compaint they have, there is always the proper venue and forum for that.Hope is the only thing left in me, hope that our country will rise above. That Filipinos don”t need to work abroad and be discriminated just to give good life to their loved ones here.I dont believe that those in the opposition are distabilizers and i hope I’m right. But please, lets also give chance to the administration, everybody has its own good and bad side.If someone commit mistakes, he/she must be punished also. I hope that the Leader of this country realizes that between different parties are millions of Citizens that needs help and these citizens must be given the top priority above all others. Please give naman the people your serving the right that they deserve.Anyway on the Judgment Day, we will be equal.
