Political Ads

This early, TV viewers are already being barraged with stupid, self-glorifying political ads from so-called “senatoriables”. And it’s goddamn irritating. If these people really did their jobs well, I don’t think they really have to pay hundreds of thousands of pesos to promote themselves.

Isn’t it illegal to start campaigning when the campaign period hasn’t officially started?

Paging COMELEC Commissioners, DO YOUR JOB!!!

   This may be a digression from the topic of early ads but I have just meet a big-time political coordinator who showed to me a political campaign budget by one running for a gubernatorial position in Luzon and I was almost floored by the estimate. It is a one hundred million huge caboodles. Call me naive but with a salary grade 30 position or roughly 28k (not so sure on the current) salary every month before taxes, it would take a governor more than 3,571 months to recover his political expenses or 148 years in office. Now, we should not complain about corruption, we make the public office too expensive even for a saint to run.

   Shouldn’t we be blaming the media as well. They are the ones accepting the money from the wannabe politician for early campaigning. They know that it is in violation of the Comelec rule but these TV moguls seems to be looking the other way because of the money going into their coffers.

   Ang gara ng buhay? Ang buhay mo siguro, hindi ang mga Pilipino.

   Libreng pre-school naman kay Dancing Queen. Eh, elementary nga lang hindi pa mapondohan ng maayos, dadagdagan pa ng pre-school. Pero nag-apologize naman sa pagsasayaw niya noong impeachment ni Erap. Kasi next time magpractice ka with a Dance Instructor para hindi ka napupulaan sa iyong steps.

   Magsaysay is my Guy? Walang pagkahalintulad sa tatay. Walang-wala. Tingnan nyo na lang ang kahit anong bayan sa Zambales, lalo na ang kapitolyo ng Iba.

   Chavit para Senador? Nakalimutan na ba natin ang Jueteng scandal?

   “Mabuti na lang may Tito tayong maaasahan.” Ang hirap talaga gumawa ng advertisement ang mga walang naggawa sa Senado, ano? Titong maaasahan, bakit security guard ba siya?

   Koko Pimentel? Sino siya? Human Rights lawyer ikamo? Eh, di ba Director siya ng UCPB all the time bago siya nagkandidato? Pakisabi nga kung anong human rights case ang hinawakan niya?

   Alan Peter Cayetano? I admire his guts in hitting the First Gentleman, kaya lang wala ka namang napatunayang secret bank account, pare. Kuwentong walang kuwenta lang pala.

   And so many others candidates.

   Pero mananalo pa rin ang mga yan. The joke is really on us, Pinoys. What a funny country with a very unfortunate populace.
