Accountability and Responsibility

Finger-pointing. That is all that Petron is doing in response to the oil spill in Guimaras. Petron refuses to spend money for cleaning up the oil spill and for paying for the damages caused by it.

Although Petron is not the owner of MT Solar 1 which spilled the oil on the beaches of Guimaras, it is still accountable for what happened. It is accountable because it is their oil which is polluting the beaches. It is their oil that is choking the aquatic plants and animals. It is their oil that is slowly poisoning the lungs of the people of Guimaras people. It is their oil that destroyed one of main sources of livelihood of the people of Guimaras. It is their oil which has FOREVER changed the beaches, the corals and the lives of those in the area.

Isagani Cruz Hesitantly Lambasts the Gay Community

In his August 10 column entitled “Don we now our gay apparel” for the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Isagani Cruz hesistantly takes potshots at the gay community and even goes the length of how the existence of a gays adversely affect society.

Here are some excerpts:

It seems that the present society has developed a new sense of values that have rejected our religious people’s traditional ideas of propriety and morality on the pretext of being “modern” and “broad-minded.”

The observations I will here make against homosexuals in general do not include the members of their group who have conducted themselves decorously…. I offer abject apologies to those blameless people I may unintentionally include in my not inclusive criticisms. They have my admiration and respect.

The Bystander:HOW TO BE A LAW-ABIDING CITIZEN

The Bystander offers some very useful tips on “How to be a Law Abiding Citizen:”

2. Forget about Garci and the Garci tapes. He’s just a former Comelec official caught on tape having conversations with a woman whose voice sounded like that of Mrs. Arroyo. Nah, their discussions merely centered on how to manipulate the will of the electorate. No big deal. After all, everyone cheats during elections.

5. Don’t support the personalities and groups out to challenge Mrs. Arroyo. Truth and accountability are no longer important these days. Besides, to borrow the words of Bong Austero, the opposition is merely a bunch of power hungry fools.

10. Hear no evil, speak no evil, see no evil. Be indifferent and apathetic. Move on. Just imagine yourself living in Gloria’s enchanted kingdom.

The Blame Game

Some administration politicians have blamed Arroyo’s detractors for her recent trip to the hospital. Me? I think it’s her guilty conscience that should be blamed.

Supermaids

On the news tonight, Arroyo was boasting that the OFWs from Lebanon are going to be trained by TESDA to be “Supermaids,” and that they will be sent to work as such in Saudia Arabia. She said we’re no longer sending our OFWs to the more dangerous countries such as Iraq, Afghanistan and Lebanon. But yes, we’ll still send them abroad to the less “dangerous places.”

The Philippine Commentary Exposes the Human Shield Lie

Garcillano’s Lawyer Confirms

I saw the last part of Pia Hontiveros‘ phone interview of Virgilio “Garci” Garcillano’s lawyer, Atty. Eddie Tamondong on ANC. Tamondong confirmed that Garci is indeed thinking of running for Congress.

Hontiveros had the guts to ask Tamondong if they are going to use the “Hello Garci” ringtone as part of his campaign. Tamondong was clearly shocked. He said that if that was going to come out during the elections, it would have to be done by the opposing camp. He proceeded to defend his client by saying that the cases filed against him have no basis and that they are going to win.
