Has the Dust Settled?

Days after the impassioned speeches, the voting and the rallies, has the dust finally settled? Or is this the calm before the storm?

The administration has been confident in declaring their victory in shutting up the impeachment cases against the president. Meanwhile, the opposition has decided not to elevate the complaints to the Supreme Court and has vowed to take their fight to the streets.

Senators have started to take sides. Political ads are filling up the dailies’ pages. And politicians continue to hammer the nation with their self-righteous speeches and pleas.

Meanwhile, the economy is suffering; the people are whipped like crazy by the rising oil prices and the pending EVAT implementation.

No, I don’t think the dust has finally settled and unfortunately, it will not do so in the near future. The reality is there hasn’t hasn’t been any real victory. The reality is the country is still down in the dumps. The reality is nothing has changed. The reality is politicians will continue to fight, bicker and grandstand. Impeachment or no impeachment, resignation or no resignation, cha-cha or no cha-cha, the dust will only settle if every Filipino has adequate and proper food on their tables, effective education and leaders who are true statesmen rather than mere publicity-hungry, self-serving politicians

You’re right, it will be the same thing all over again. Next year, there will be another impeachment complaint and the year after that, so on and so forth. The opposition thinks their valiance is rubbing off on us. I don’t think so! I think they’re full of themselves.

What you have said here could just as easily apply to us in the United States…though the calls for impeachment are just beginning to amplify. I guess things are pretty much tough all over.

You are completely right. Nothing seems to ever settle in this tumultous nation of ours.

I agree with you. There is really no end in site. The cycle just goes on and on and on.

For me the best solution is education (not the usual education of going to school but education in the real sense of the word). It is ironic and undortunate that Rizal already spoke about this and yet no one heeds his call.

Is it because the politicians and the ruling class are like the spaniards in their belief that keeping an ignorant citizenry would keep them in power forever?
